Eva's Art
Eva Szabo started drawing while still in high school and this
remained a fun hobby her friends and family enjoyed. After a
long break and some changes in her life, she picked up color
pencils and started creating "portraits" of people - friends -
that were not your usual, everyday portraits. She seemed to
grab the essence of these women in the pictures. A few years
ago, she started painting.

"
I love strong colors and I get very clear images in my mind's
eye of what I want to create. After a while I just felt that
drawing in color pencils was not enough, and definitely not fast
enough for me. I wanted more freedom and speed that painting
affords me. I can mix and layer colors in ways that I could
never do with pencils. I love painting!
"

She paints vibrant abstracts that use intense colors; her main
medium is acrylic, which she paints on canvas.

"
My paintings are usually born in my head, a complete picture,
and all I have to do is put them on canvas. Most often they are
inspired by the people that I am painting them for
(Marsheen,
For Ildi, Rama, Anna's First Communion, Cecilia, Portrait of
Tina), or the space that they will hang in (Home, Sunshower,
Beyond the Blue, Heat, Ice, Mystery, Ganesh). Sometimes
inspiration just hits for no obvious reason, and a picture is born

(
Shapes I, II, III, Purple Eye, Dance, Lightning, Still Life,
Purple Eye Study). When someone asks me to paint something
for them, I try to find out what I can about what they envision,
where the picture will be placed and what they are like.
Sometimes it takes a while, but no one has been disappointed
yet with the end result
."
